The Oral History Centre is committed to creative community development through offering workshops that meet the needs of a diverse community interested in oral history. Throughout their careers, Dr. Reilly and Dr. Freund have individually given many oral history workshops for K-12 teachers, union members, and community groups, and have had ongoing consultation with students, faculty, and other researchers on oral history methods, research project design, equipment, and best practices in oral history. In 2012, Dr. Freund and Dr. Reilly made workshops for community and university researchers a core service of the OHC.

Staff at the Oral History Centre oversee the continued development and organization of the Oral History Centre’s workshops, which include programming for researchers, students, and community members alike. In addition to these public workshops, the Oral History Centre has also designed and organized workshops for major research projects and for professional organizations. The OHC also hosts many oral history related seminars, symposiums and conferences which provide venues for public presentation of student research, community oral history projects and guest lectures by prominent oral historians.

The Oral History Centre frequently co-sponsors events with the H. Sanford Riley Fellowship in Canadian History, a fellowship which supports historians of Canada to visit the university to share their knowledge of Canada with the university and broader community.
