The University of Winnipeg is committed to providing access to information while also protecting the privacy of students, employees and third parties. Two pieces of legislation govern access and privacy at UWinnipeg:
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) allows any person a right of access to recorded information in the custody or under the control of the University, subject to limited and specific exceptions. It also establishes conditions governing how the University collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information contained within University records. Click here for more information about FIPPA from the Government of Manitoba.
The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) provides individuals with a right to examine and receive a copy of their personal health information maintained by the University, subject to limited and specific exceptions. It also establishes conditions governing how the University collects, uses, discloses and protects personal health information contained within University records. Click here for more information about PHIA from the Government of Manitoba.
The FIPPA Officer manages the University's compliance with FIPPA and PHIA, both in responding to requests for access to information and in assisting the UWinnipeg community to collect, use and disclose personal information pursuant to the Acts.
Visit the Uwinnipeg Information and Privacy page for more information about FIPPA and PHIA at UWinnipeg.
To make an application under FIPPA, please download and fill out the FIPPA Application Form and send it to the FIPPA Officer by mail or fax.
