Research Assistant Position: Oral History Centre / Landscapes of Injustice

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.

Position Description:

The Student Research Assistant will work with the University of Winnipeg’s Oral History Centre and the Japanese Canadian Cultural Association of Manitoba on a project for the Landscapes of Injustice Project at the University of Victoria (the project studies the displacement and dispossession of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War). The RA will examine the JCCA’s extant oral history collections to develop a pilot project that asks how extant digital oral history collections can be made more accessible. In particular, the RA will examine completed oral histories with Japanese-Canadians, search for oral histories completed with the same person at different times, and search for oral histories completed with several members of the same family. Based on this research, the student will develop a case study teaching unit that shows students and teachers how to use a small oral history collection in the classroom and for a small, independent oral history project. The student will work closely with Professor Freund, other staff at the Oral History Centre, and members of the JCCA.
